This spinoff is more Game of Thrones than Dune
A prequel to the original Dune, telling the story of how the Bad Sister became the Bene Gesserit. The incident using Valya Harkonnen’s voice comes from an event called “Mentats of Dune.” The three books trace the development of the Sisterhood, Mentats, Navigators, and Suk Doctors. Reference in Crazy Cartoon Cast: The New Normal (2020) by AniMat.
This is a great spin-off of a beloved film franchise
Still, Dune: The Prophecy is everything I hoped for and more. I should start by saying that I have never read the source material or seen the original film. My experience with Dune is based on the two Dune films that have come out in recent years starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya.
I really like both of them, so I had high expectations for this series
Both of these films (particularly Dune: Part Two) are two of my favorite films that I have seen in recent years. Dune: Prophecy is a series set 10,000 years before the Dune films begin and tells the story of how the Harkonnen sisters unleash the Bene Gesserit as a fighting force that threatens the future of humanity. The series may be more Game of Thrones than Dune, but regardless, it is a lot of fun.
You don’t need to have seen both Dune movies to enjoy this one, but you’ll definitely enjoy it more if you have
The most important thing about this show is that it does exactly what it sets out to do: deepen our understanding of the Bene Gesserit.
